This Indenture made this 29 day of January one thousand eight hundred & 14 between Charles Kilgore and Mary his wife of Russell County and Commonwealth of Virginia of the one part and James Nickels of the county and state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Charles Kilgore for and in consideration of four hundred dollars lawful money of Virginia to him in hand paid the receipt whereof he doth here acknowledge hath granted & bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain & sell unto the above named James Nichols a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county of Russell on the North side of Mockerson ridge it being part of a tract that belonged to George Stacey being seventy five acres more or less, and bounded as followeth to wit Beginning at a white oak on a clift thence running across the bent of the creek, thence to a beach on the side of the creek, thence up the creek as it runs to the mouth of a dry branch cornering on two beaches, and a dogwood, thence on a conditional line between the said Charles Kilgore and James Green thence running to two white oaks, thence on a conditional line between sd Charles Kilgore and Gray to a bucky & sugartree, thence along the several courses of the line cornering on the south side of Copper Creek, thence up the said creek to the beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land unto the said James Nicles and his heirs forever and the said Charles Kilgore and Mary his wife and their will forever warrant and defend the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances to the above named James Nicholas and to his heirs and assigns against the claims of all others. In witness whereof the said Charles Kilgore and Mary his wife have hereunto subscribed their names the day and year above written.

This Indenture made the eleventh day of September one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven between Ebenezer Minto of the one part and Matthias Nichols of the other part, both of the County of Washington and Commonwealth of Virginia witnesseth that the said Ebenezer Minto for and in consideration of the sum of thirty pounds current money of Virginia, to him in hand paid, Doth bargain and sell unto the said Matthias Nichols and his heirs, one certain tract or parcel of land in the said County of Washington on the waters of the North fork of Holsteins river containing ninety one acres by Survey bearing date the second day of May one thousand seven hundred and eighty two and granted to the said Ebenezer Minto by the Commonwealth of Virginia the twentieth day of June one thousand seven hundred and eighty five and bounded as follows, To wit, Beginning at Richard Fields corner, white oak Dogwood and Poplar saplings, thence North fifty one degrees east One hundred and ninety two poles to a black oak and chesnut oak and Dogwood Sapling, South forty four degrees east twenty four poles to a white oak on the side of a hill, South two degrees west eighty six poles to a large sugartree South sixty four degrees west thirty eight poles to a large hicory and chesnut South sixty nine degrees west one hundred and seventy poles to Richard Fields line and with his line North twenty nine degrees east sixty eight poles to the Beginning with its appurtenances To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances to the said Matthias Nichols and his heirs to the said use and behoof of him the said Matthias Nichols and his heirs forever. And the said Ebenezer Minto for himself and his heirs doth covenant with the said Matthias Nichols and his heirs that he the said Ebenezer Minto and his heirs the said land with all the appurtenances unto the said Matthias Nichols and his heirs against all persons whatever will forever warrant and defend. In witness whereof the said Ebenezer Minto hath hereunto subscribed his name and affixed his seal the day and year above written.

James Wood Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, To all To Whom these presents shall come, Greeting: Know ye, That by virtue of a Land Office Treasury Warrant, Number fourteen thousand, nine hundred and sixty four, issued the fourteenth day of December one thousand, seven hundred and eighty two. There is granted by the said Commonwealth unto Matthias Nickles a certain Tract or parcel of Land containing One hundred Acres by Survey bearing date the Seventeenth day of October, one thousand, seven hundred and ninety four, Lying and being in the County of Washington, on the Chesnut ridge on the South branches of the North fork of Holstein River and is bounded as followeth to wit Beginning at a Sugar tree Corner to Richard Fields land and running with said Nickles lines thence North sixty nine degrees East one hundred and seventy poles to a large hickory and Chestnut on a ridge, North sixty five degrees East thirty eight poles to a large Sugar tree, thence leaving said line South eighty six degrees East fourteen poles to a Cucumber on a line of Robert Preston's land and with the same South seven degrees West seventy one poles to a chesnut and dogwood on a ridge, South nineteen degrees East eighty seven poles to a Chesnut on said Chesnut Ridge North Seventy one degrees West fifty poles leaving said lines to a Chesnut corner to John Whitbys land, North Seventy five degrees West one hundred and twelve poles crossing a spring branch to a buckeye, and thence North sixty eight and a half degrees West eighty poles to the Beginning With its appurtenances, To have and To hold the said Tract or parcel of Land with its Appurtenances, to the said Matthias Nickles and his Heirs forever. In Witness whereof the said James Wood Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his Hand and Caused the lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the thirteenth day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six, and of the Commonwealth the twenty first.

Beverley Randolph Esquire Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, To all To whom these Presents shall come, Greeting: Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of a Land Office Treasury Warrant Number Nine Thousand Seven hundred and ninety five, Issued the Eleventh day of December, One Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty one, there is Granted by the said Granted by the said Commonwealth unto Walter Mattinley Assignee of Aaron Lewis a certain tract or Parcel of land, containing one hundred and thirty four Acres, by survey bearing date the Thirteenth day of April, One Thousand seven hundred and Eighty five, lying and being in the County of Washington in the Rich Valley on the North side of the Laurel fork a Branch of the North fork of Holstein river and Bounded as followeth, to wit, Beginning at a spruce pine and maple on the bank of the Creek running thence North forty five degrees West thirty two Poles to a poplar on the side of a ridge, South fifty one degrees West one hundred and Eighty Poles to a Spanish oak, South thirty degrees west Sixty six Poles to a Small black oak on the side of a ridge, South fifty degrees West one hundred and Seventy Poles to two white oaks and two Dogwoods on the West bank of tumbling creek, South fifty degrees east ninety eight Poles crossing the said Creek to two white oaks, thence running North thirty five degrees East Three hundred and thirty Poles up the Laurel fork to the Beginning with its Appurtenances, To Have and To Hold the said tract or Parcel of Land with its appurtenances to the said Walter Mattinley and his Heirs forever.
