Powhatan Co., VA Will Book No. 1, Page 178
In the name of God Amen, I, Mathias Nichols of Powhatan County being of perfect mind and memory blessed be to God do ordain, constitute and appoint this my last will and testament in manner and form following:
Item, I give my beloved wife Annas Nichols the land and plantation I now live on containing one hundred and one acres together will all my stock of every kind and likewise all my household goods and furniture, to be by her disposed of as she shall think fit, to her and her heirs forever, and lastly I do appoint my said wife Executrix of this my last will and testament, bereby revoking all others and I do appoint that my Estate be not appraised. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety.

At a Court held for Powhatan County at Scottsville on Thursday the 17th day of June 1790, this last will and testament of Mathias Nichols deceased was presented in Court by Annas Nichols the Executrix therein named and proved by the oaths of George Smith and John Maxey two of the witnesses thereto and by the Court was ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of the said Executrix who made oath and together with John Maxey her security entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of one hundred pounds conditioned according to law probate thereof is granted to her in due form.

--Note: Mathias Nichols' widow, Annas, married Peter Dean in 1792 in Powhatan Co., VA.--
